Pilot Bioengineering Demonstration Site
Bio-engineering demonstration site at Section 45.9 FT185 Simpang Pulai Highway
There are two phases consolidated for the Pilot Bioengineering Demonstration Site. Through first phase (Phase 1), four plots successfully established at pilot bio-engineering demonstration site at Section 45.9 FT185 of Simpang Pulai Highway. Trench for drainage, silt traps for sediment monitoring, coconut coir mat and plant species suitable in slope used in Phase 1. A nursery successfully established in Kg Pawong Orang Asli Village to provide seedlings for bio-engineering project and also other related initiatives, which provided additional income for communities
In 2021 (Phase 2), initiatives at pilot bio-engineering site divided into three sub-activities as below. The progress of work carried out so far are:
- Monitoring and maintenance of all the existing four plots of Bio-engineering demonstration site.
- GEC team monitored plant growth rate (3 months once), sediment height (twice a week initially especially during high rainfall, will be done again during month of Sept/October 2021 again).
- Detailed monitoring on 10 March 2021 & 11 March 2021.
- GEC together with Prof. Dr. Normaniza, UM with her team, assisted by OA community from Kg Pawong and Kg Makmur
- Plant height and chlorophyll content, soil nutrient, and moisture content measured with soil samples analyzed in Chemical Laboratory (M) Sdn Bhd, accredited laboratory

- The establishment work involved OA community from Kg Pawong and Kg Makmur
- • To date, number of trees being planted by OA are 80 saplings(10 Bamboo, 30 Melastoma Malabathricum, 30 Dillenia Suffruticosa and 10 Vetiver)
