Objective 2: To enhance KRT Klebang Selatan One Stop Centre and urban farming project as urban community alternative livelihood model
Activity 2.1 Enhancement of mechanism, product packaging and operation of One Stop Centre
i) Improvement of management and operation structure.
After a series of discussions with KRT Klebang Selatan community members and JPNIN, it has been decided that the best way to officially register the organization was through Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) as JPNIN already had Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with them. The agreed name of the organization is “Koperasi Jaringan Usahawan Lestari Alam KRT Klebang Selatan”. The registration has been done through online registration with eleven (11) core team members as part of the organization. This has been done to run the one stop center more efficiently. To support the Koperasi, proper business plans have been developed with more sustainable business options. There are four (4) flavors of chips produced by the community of KRT Klebang Selatan. To improve the management and operation structure of One Stop Centre, a series of business plan and financial literacy workshops with Dr. Aaron Kwan has been conducted.
ii) Product eco packaging and marketing enhancement
The enhancement of the product’s eco-packaging has also been developed. Now the chips were packed according to the eco-packaging concept, which was in a jar as it is eco-friendly. This product’s information and certification have been included on the label of the jar. The product of chips of KRT Klebang Selatan has always been promoted and marketed in social media such as Facebook and WhatsApp. Promotion of green initiatives through single-use plastic reduction has also been developed. The green initiatives done at KRT Klebang Selatan as mentioned above have greatly helped the community in in terms of manhours and human resources. This has also significantly helped the community to infuse the usage of green technology in their community garden.
Activity 2.2 Enhance environmental sustainability of community garden
i) Set up smart watering system
To enhance the environmental sustainability of KRT Klebang Selatan community garden, one (1) Smart Watering system has been successfully installed. It includes mainly three (3) parts: solar panel, rainwater harvesting, and water pump system. The rainwater harvesting system installation includes two (2) water storage tanks as an additional source of water for the crops and vegetations. Moreover, a 3hp (horsepower) water pump has been installed to connect the sprinkler watering system around the community garden. Lastly, a complete set of solar system with three (3) solar panels that produces 1.2kW energy, power inverter (3kW) and two (2) solar batteries (200Ah – 12V) has been installed at the existing water pump house of the community garden.
i) Establish systematic organic waste management
One (1) fully functioning composting site has been established together by the community to enhance and showcase their organic waste management. As part of visibility and education, one (1) illustration signboard installed to help the visitors and public to have a better understanding on the composting process and on-site system.
