River of Life Public Outreach Programme Phase 1 Consolidation
The objective of the phase is to consolidate the programmes that have been carried out under Phase 1 and enabled a range of follow-up activities to be undertaken in 12 months’ time.
This consolidation phase helped to empower and strengthen community and other stakeholder action to maintain and enhance water quality and lead to reduce the amount of targeted pollutants (solid waste, suspended solids, sullage, and oil and grease) in targeted rivers within the Project Area.
Activities are all focused within the areas as below:
Project Outcome:
- Six (6) local communities targeted are established, registered and very proactive
- Twelve (12) activities conducted by the six (6) local communities with total participation of more than 1400 people.
- Ten (10) localised and centralised activities conducted as capacity building of the community leaders and members
- 30 restaurants are participating in the programme with 4 audit sessions was done with MPAJ and 2 sessions with DBKL.
- DAPUR HIJAU BMP posters were distributed to non-participating restaurants within the whole project area
- A total of 593 households within the 6 local community groups (Taman Warisan, Eco Melawati, Wangsa Melawati, Sierra Ukay, AU3 & AU2) are active in implementation of pollution reduction measures.
- All the 6 communities have started their monthly water quality monitoring activities. Monitoring data been shared continupusly with the stretch of 1km per community being monitored (total 6 km)
- 1.5 km of upper Klang Gate and River Stretch near SJKT Taman Melawati River & View Apartment stretch has been adopted by P.P.R.K.T.W and Society of Eco Greater Melawati
- AU3 adopted 1km river stretch and has started the construction of AU3 Linear Park Test-Patch.
- AU2 community adopted 1km river stretch and has started developing their river recreational park in partnership with a corporate partner, Maybank. The soft launch of the long term CSR Programme was held on 28 June 2015 and the actual launching of the adopted river stretch as well as beautification work will be on 5 September 2015.
- The 1st open classroom is running successfully. The second centre has been established, launched and is running. One training was carried out at the River Care & Environment Centre (RCEC) by the SEGM trainers.
- total of 5 training and education activities have been organized with and by the local communities of Persatuan Penduduk Rekreasi Kg. Taman Warisan Hulu Kelang Selangor (P.P.R.K.T.W) and Society of Eco-Greater Melawati (SEGM). The communities played proactive role as trainers and as well as the facilitators for the training in Taman Warisan’s River Resource Centre (RRC).
